Al-Ettifaq skipper Jordan Henderson has welcomed former Liverpool teammate Georginio Wijnaldum after arriving in the Saudi Pro League.

Steven Gerrard’s side managed to complete a sensational move to bring Wijnaldum to Dammam this summer from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 32-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a three-year contract as he joined Al-Ettifaq for a reported fee of £8 million.

He also became their fourth summer signing following the acquisitions of Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, Jack Hendry and Mousse Dembele from Lyon.

After reuniting with ex-Liverpool teammate Henderson, the latter was quick to welcome Wijnaldum in a short video and says he expects the Dutchman to help Al-Ettifaq achieve titles this season.

“Hi, Gini! I’m really happy that you’re gonna be joining me here at Al-Ettifaq,” Henderson said via the club’s official account on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“Looking forward to achieving a lot together just like the good old days. The players and fans are waiting for you in Dammam.

“We can’t wait to see you. See you soon mate,” he added.

Al-Ettifaq recently turned their form around in the new Saudi Pro League campaign despite dropping points in the last two weeks.

A disappointing 1-1 draw against Al-Khaleej followed by a humbling 2-0 defeat to record Asian champions Al-Hilal raised concerns among Al-Ettifaq fans.

However, they returned to winning ways on Saturday evening after overcoming Damac 3-1 with Dembele scoring twice despite going behind early in the game.

Their next game will take place after the international break as they are set for an away trip to face Abha in the league’s fifth round on Saturday, September 16th.
