Steven Gerrard has reportedly asked Al-Ettifaq officials to negotiate a deal for Al-Ittihad’s new summer signing Jota.

Jota had completed a surprising £25 million move to Al-Ittihad from Celtic and was set to be a part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s lineup this season.

The Portuguese forward, however, is yet to start a game under Santo, who has favoured Brazilian duo Romarinho and Igor Coronado on the wings.

Recent reports also confirmed that Jota was informed that his game time in Jeddah would be limited as Al-Ittihad are looking to find a solution for the 24-year-old.

Despite scoring his first goal in Al-Ittihad colours against Al-Wehda on Monday, Jota could still be on his way out of the club as they look to make room for new potential signings.

According to a report by Asharq Al-Awsat, Steven Gerrard has demanded Al-Ettifaq’s management to hold talks with Al-Ittihad over Jota.

Gerrard is said to be an admirer of the forward’s abilities and would like to make him Al-Ettifaq’s fourth summer acquisition after Jordan Henderson, Jack Hendry, and Moussa Dembele.

However, Jota has reportedly made it clear to Al-Ittihad officials that he has no intention of leaving the club and is willing to fight for his place.

Al-Ettifaq are desperate for new signings, especially after dropping points in their last two games in the Saudi Pro League.

A frustrating 1-1 draw against Al-Khaleej followed by a humbling 2-0 defeat to Al-Hilal demonstrated the gap between Al-Ettifaq and their rivals.

They are still showing intent to compete this season as reports also revealed Al-Ettifaq want to sign former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain.
