Al-Ettifaq midfielder Jordan Henderson has been speaking about his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s England squads for either the European Championships or the remaining friendly games coming this calendar year.
The English midfielder, who left Liverpool this summer after 12 years at the Anfield club, made the controversial decision to move to Steven Gerrard’s Saudi side.
The former Sunderland man has received criticism for making the move to the Saudi side but the attention and questions from the media have now turned to whether the midfielder will be in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the upcoming international games in the next few months.
It seems England’s manager isn’t ruling out the midfielder at least being considered for international games.
Speaking to TalkSport, Southgate said: “I spoke to him in the summer, the question he wanted to know was ‘If I move here, are you going to automatically rule me out?’
“We would be stupid to do that. Why would we rule anyone out based on where they are playing? We have got to see how they are playing.”

Henderson’s thoughts
It seems the 33-year-old midfielder Henderson has given his thoughts and believes he too can be back involved despite the move.
“I’m focused on playing for England and giving my best and if do that there’s no reason I can’t play for England again,” the midfielder said, according to Ben Jacobs.
“As the gaffer said, we spoke over the last few weeks about it as playing for England means a lot to me.”
The Englishman will be hoping to perform for Steven Gerrard’s side and may well have to prove himself once again in a new league if Southgate is to consider the 33-year-old for another England call-up.
The midfielder did look secure during the 2022 World Cup in the winter just gone and will be hoping to replicate that form next season in the Middle East.
