Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq have been credited with an interest in Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

He will be moving on from the Manchester club due to a result of an internal investigation and they have received a huge boost in the race for the forward.

Jose Mourinho was said to be a fan of the 21-year-old according to TalkSport.

However, a report from Italy has seemingly denied that the Italian giants are interested in the English forward.

Greenwood looks set to leave United, either on loan or a permanent deal but either way the Englishman will not be making a return to the Old Trafford club.

However, Italian outlet Il Tempo have claimed Roma will not be the team to sign the forward as they look to distance themselves from the 21-year-old.

This would come as a huge boost for Al-Ettifaq as they bid to carry on their excellent start to the season following two wins in a row in the Saudi Pro League.

Roma are said to be looking for a striker signing this summer following the injury to former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

The knee injury he suffered at the back end of last season, is set to keep him out until the early months of 2024.

Mourinho keen to distance his side from Greenwood

Despite their need for a striker, according to the Italian report, it is understood that Mourinho, who managed United while Greenwood was in the academy after two previous spells at Chelsea, does not want to be associated with the former England international following the internal investigation undertaken on the 21-year-old.

According to Rob Dawson, of ESPN, the most likely destination for the striker is either Turkey or Saudi Arabia.

This comes after the forward was, according to The Sun, offered £10 million a season to come and play for Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq side.
